GETTING TO YORK UNIVERSITY

The address of the University of York campus is: Heslington, York, YO10 5DD [Google map link].  The main conference proceedings will be held in the Rymer Auditorium, Heslington West Campus, which is in the same building as the Sir Jack Lyons Concert Hall. Sunday’s opening event will be in the Ron Cooke Hub/3Sixty, located on Heslington East Campus. This is a new development and does appear on many older maps. However, it is served  by the 44 bus route (see below) and signposted locally.

By road:

The easiest route to the University is to take the outer ring road (A64 on the south and east sides of the city, A1237 around the north and west) to the junction with the Hull/Bridlington roads (A1079/A166). Turn off at the exit marked University and follow the signs past Grimston Bar and down Field Lane to University Road. This route avoids the City centre and known traffic blackspots.

Parking is rigidly enforced on the campus. Delegates should park only in the designated Pay-and-Display car parks. For convenience a voucher covering the period of the conference can be ordered at the time of registration.

By train:

York Station is on the East Coast Main Line which runs between London Kings Cross and Edinburgh Waverley stations. There is also a direct service across the Pennines between Manchester Airport, Leeds and York. Timetables are available here.

By air:

The easiest access to York is from Manchester Airport, which has direct connections to more than 60 international destinations. Click here for a current list.  There are frequent trains to York Station directly from the airport. More information and details of travel from other UK airports can be found here.

Transport from York Station to campus:

York Station is approximately 2 miles/3 kms from the University of York campus. The 44 and 4 bus routes operate a frequent service from outside the station. Journey time is approximately 20 minutes. A timetable for the 44 can be found here.  Delegates should get off at Stop 2 for the Music Research Centre’s Rymer Auditorium. For those preferring to take a taxi, there is a taxi rank outside the station.
